I.V. Infusion Therapy
Why have Vitamin C Intravenous Therapy?
Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant and enzyme co-factor involved in many vital functions in the body including the synthesis, conversion or metabolism of various hormones, proteins, amino acids and other substances. As such, Vitamin C plays an essential role in energy production, mood, brain function, digestion, skeletal system maintenance, immune function and much more.
Importantly, Vitamin C has a significant role scavenging for free radicals, the cause of oxidative stress that is commonly the underlying cause of the disease process. When our body’s cells are under increased stress, whether through the disease process, injury or lifestyle factors such as high levels of exercise (eg professional athletes), fatigue, mental health or personal stressors, the cells increase their uptake of Vitamin C to protect against damage.
I.V. Vitamin C can be helpful in supporting the body’s management of many acute and chronic conditions, as well as maintaining general health and well being. While oral supplementation of VItamin C is useful, high doses can cause gastrointestinal upset. Therefore, I.V. Vitamin can be tolerated in much higher doses without this effect as the Digestive System is bypassed entirely.
Furthermore, research now supports the ideology that Vitamin C can reduce chemotherapy/radiotherapy induced side effects, such as fatigue, weight loss and can improve general quality of life through its antioxidants and antiinflammatory activities.
There is also evidence that suggests Vitamin C has beneficial effects for many aspects of health and wellbeing, including:
- Wound healing including trauma and post operative wounds
- Injury including fractures and muscle injury
- Immune support
- Chronic conditions including cancer and cardiovascular disease
- Acute diseases
- Viral infections including mononucleosis (glandular fever)
- Bacterial infections
- Fatigue
- Disease prevention
Before having a Vitamin C infusion you will undergo a Registered Nurse Health Assessment. After your first treatment and before your second you will be required to have a simple blood test to check that your kidneys are functioning normally.
